An article published in the Expert Opinion on Drug Metabolism & Toxicology reported on guidelines developed for the diagnosis and treatment of rhinitis and urticaria. This article elaborated on a review of all published literature in English, retrieved from the PubMed/MEDLINE database between 1966 and March 2011, concerning antihistamines, allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria, and levocetirizine. From the findings of this review, it was inferred that despite its clinical efficacy, potent skin antihistamines, such as fexofenadine, should be preferred for patients who have a strict contraindication to the sedative effects of levocetrizine.
